The lessons we can learn form BSF

It's impossible to ignore the fact that Britain's building industry is going through a period of turbulence.

The latest figures from the Construction Skills Network, suggesting that the UK's construction personnel intake is set to halve in the coming years, are just the latest indication of the pitfalls we face in this time of economic recession.

To get through this stage of uncertainty, we need the pillars of the building industry to stay strong. School construction is a sector we can definitely rely on. The demand for new education buildings has never been greater, with the Government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme now well underway.

Every secondary school in England will be rebuilt or refurbished in the next decade, and the resulting contracts will be vital for hundreds of building firms up and down the country. The programme is currently going through its busiest-ever period; 180 new schools opened last month, the highest number of simultaneous openings fir thirty years.
